Description: 500th Anniversary Pictorial Census of the Gutenberg Bible Signed First Edition Beautiful, oversized book in the original red faux morocco with slipcase, numbered 246 of 985, and signed at the colophon by the author, Don Cleveland Norman. Published in 1961 in Chicago by Cloverdale Press. This beautiful book features the history of the Gutenberg Bible, along with the locations of all known copies or partial copies of this famous Bible. It also includes an Introduction to the Life and Work of Johannes Gutenberg by Aloys Rupple. Numerous color and black and white photographs and illustrations are contained throughout the pages. I would grade this book as VG (Very Good), however I am not a professional bookseller. The photos accompanying this listing show the various defects I found which are: age-related discoloration inside the slipcase, age-related discoloration where a few of the beginning pages meet the backing material at the spine (it looks to me as though it might be related to the glue used), one page with a reddish mark about 1” long, one page with a small brown mark (approx. 1/16” dia.) and a slightly worn area surrounding it, a few other pages with small brown marks (approx. 1/16th” dia.). There are no tears or repairs, and no bent pages. This item comes from a non-smoking home. I use recycled packaging.
