Whether they smolder or not, once the tip has had heat applied to it, the smell may last up to an hour or more depending upon many conditions. Knox factory seals their cones in a plastic bag, inside the box. As soon as we receive them, we immediately place their box into another plastic bag and seal it. Light the tip until it glows orange (for a few seconds)· Blow out the orange glow…fan it a couple of times (like a Birthday Candle)· Allow Cone to start to Smoke/Smolder· Place Top Piece back on Smoker…Watch your Smoker, well smoke! So relaxing…if only for a few minutes!-If the Cone was smoking before placing the top on BUT Smoker is NOT smoking… You may have an airflow problem. Try cleaning it per Manufacturer’s Directions OR you may need a larger (XL) or smaller (MINI) cone for your particular smoker. You can also insure the hole is not obstructed in any way OR you may just need to give it a few minutes for the smoke to build up inside the smoker to start coming -If you can not get the Tip/Top Portion Cone to Glow Orange—Most times they take just a few seconds after heat is applied BUT sometimes they take a little more time to become orange before turning out the ignition source (a long lighter works best). Still can’t get the tip to glow orange..try another cone or box. It is extremely rare when we can’t get one cone to glow orange, then smolder/smoke!
