Description: 3 Excavated Civil War Williams Cleaner Bullets In a 5" X 6" Display Case These are the 3 types of cleaner bullets issued to Union Civil War troops. They are listed in Mason & McKee's bullet book as #537, 538 and 539. Most are missing the zinc wafer between the base plate and the bullet as they have disintegrated from being in the ground. Type I did not have the base plate like the ones shown in the photo of Types II & III. Soldiers were required to fire a Cleaner after firing so many standard rounds. The zinc base would expand causing it to ride the rifling in the barrel thus cleaning it. Soldiers must not have liked them as we have found plenty of dropped ones in some of the camps. They were dug from a Civil War camp in Virgina on private property with permission and guaranteed authentic. I have plenty of inventory so you may not get the 3 shown in the photo but all will be guaranteed to be in excellent condition. They include the matted 5" X 6" Riker display case as shown. Have either blue or green mats, your choice. If none chosen, we will send our choice.
