1971 AMC JAVELIN AMX SST 401 360 STRAIGHT TAPERED SNORKEL AIR CLEANER OEM

Description: DESCRIPTION Rare OEM 1971 AMC Javelin AMX Tapered Snorkel Air Cleaner. This assembly has been refinished to represent the factory appearance as produced for the early 71 models. It features the rare tapered snorkel specific to early 1971 with no pre-heater provisions. The base is in very good condition and has a single drain hole in the rear - allowing it to be used as either a closed element or Cowl Induction base, as well as the front breather tube. The flange is 5 1/8" inch and accomodates factory 4 barrel carburetors (Autolite 4300 models) as well as modern iterations of Edelbrock AFB and select Holley carburetors. The base is finished off with a reproduction AMC licensed 401 Four Barrel air cleaner decal (loosely installed) and correct air cleaner service decal. The original closed element lid is in good condtion and features a new seal. The assembly is completed with an aftermarket period look wing nut. This assembly was available for a limited time during the early 71 production run, as Federal emissions and drive-by noise reverted the performance air cleaners to a single snorkel with pre-heating requirements. It will work with the Cowl Induction fresh air systems designed for the AMX/Javelin Go-Pak optioned cars. This is a unique assembly that is both rarer and highly coveted by AMC enthusiasts. It will NOT fit early model (Carter AFB) variations with the smaller 4 1/8" flange without an adapter.
