1965 Cowboys vs Steelers NFL Games of the Week on DVD!

Description: 1965 COWBOYS vs. STEELERS (Week 7 and Week 9) Rare Sportsfilms, Inc. is the rights owner of this DVD These two 1965 Steeler-Cowboy games contain some of the oldest color footage of both clubs known to exist! This entire two-game VHS contains a full 50 minutes of game action, including nice closeups and sideline shots. All the stars of the mid-1960's Cowboys are seen, including several rookies who would go on to greater fame in the years ahead: Bob Hayes, Ralph Neely, Dan Reeves, Jethro Pugh and Obert Logan. Many other Cowboys are seen throughout, such as George Andrie, Lee Roy Jordan, Jerry Tubbs, Dave Edwards, Pete Gent, Frank Clarke, Don Perkins, Danny Villlanueva, Cornell Green, Colin Ridgway, Chuck Howley, Perry Lee Dunn, Larry Stephens, Mel Renfro, J.D. Smith, Warren Livingston, Bob Lilly and Mike Gaechter. Even though they won only two games in 1965, the last place Steelers had their share of stars too, and throughout both games you'll see Clarence Peaks, Frank Lambert, Paul Martha, Marv Woodson, Charlie and Jim Bradshaw, Ken Kortas, brilliant rookie Roy Jefferson, Brady Keys, Mike Lind, Clendon Thomas, Riley Gunnels, John Campbell, Mike Sandusky, John Baker, Cannonball Butler, Willie Daniel, Bob Sherman, Rod Breedlove and quarterback Ed Brown. On October 31 the Steelers (fresh off their first victory of the year at Philadelphia the week before) are 1-5, and host the Dallas Cowboys (2-4) in the first of two scheduled matchups during the 1965 season. This is a game of good defensive play and several unusual happenings, including a fumbled FG snap, three blocked PAT attempts, a blocked punt and two missed FG attempts! Great shots of the game give a real feel for NFL Steeler football in old Pitt Stadium! Dallas scores first when Quarterback Don Meredith tosses a two-yd TD pass to J.D. Smith, before big Ben McGee blocks the XP try. On the first play of the second quarter, Pittsburgh starting QB Bill Nelsen passes to Dick Hoak for the tying TD. With about five minutes left in the first half, Frank Lambert's punt is fumbled by Ray Renfro and the Steelers recover at the Dallas 23. On the very next play, Nelsen fires a strike to Gary Ballman, who takes it all the way for a 12-6 Steeler lead (the XP is again blocked!) Late in the first half, Nelsen again finds Ballman, this time for a 72-yd TD pass. Mike Clark's PAT is good and Pittsburgh leads 19-6 at halftime. In the third quarter on third and 8 at the Steeler nine, Meredith passes to Pete Gent for a Dallas TD, making the score 19-13. After several nice third down conversions late in the game, Nelsen directs the Steelers deep into Dallas territory and Mike Clark's FG from the Dallas 18 makes the final score 22-13. Narrated by Jim Gibbons, the rematch two weeks later in the Cotton Bowl is also a close one, however, five fourth quarter interceptions by the Cowboys doom Pittsburgh to defeat. The Steelers score first on Dick Hoak's 3-yd touchdown run. The Cowboys answer back when Meredith rolls left and tosses a 1-yd scoring pass to Frank Clarke to tie the game at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. A 33-yd FG by Villanueva puts the Cowboys ahead 10-7 early in the second quarter. The Cowboys put up a nice goal-line stand in the period but Villanueva's 46-yd FG attempt is wide to end the first half. In the third quarter, Mike Clark's 32-yd FG ties the game at 10-10. Then Bob Hayes fumbles at the Cowboy 20 during a punt return! Lee Folkins picks up the loose ball and runs the rest of the way to score, putting Pittsburgh ahead 17-10 at the end of three quarters. The Cowboys again tie the score 17-17 early in the final period when Dan Reeves scores on third and goal at the Steeler two. Starting at this point and continuing thru the rest of the game, Steeler quarterbacks throw five interceptions! After starter Bill Nelsen turns the ball over twice, veteran Ed Brown is brought in to finish the game and he throws three more, the second with 2:36 left. A Meredith to Bob Hayes TD pass on second and 7 seals the Steelers fate 24-17, as the two teams split the season series. These are the only copies of these rare 1965 game films known to exist, and both games are shown in beautiful I.B. Technicolor on this new DVD!
