Description: For collectors of interesting old books on the textile industry, up for auction is a 1929 British cloth-bound title called The Textile Manufacturer Year Book. The illustrated annual publication -- this is the stated 11th issue -- is rich in such printed items as post office regulations, reference articles, charts, statistics, metrical and British conversion tables, and illustrated advertisements. There's also a calendar or datebook for 1929 (near the end of the title), which was never filled in, and attached at the inside of the spine by a faded blue ribbon is a handsome bookmark that's an advertisement for Wilson Bros. Bobbin Co., Ltd., of Liverpool. The gilt-titled navy blue cloth-bound book, which does not come with a dust jacket, measures 4-1/2 inches wide by 7 inches high and comprises 514 pages of text plus 120 pages of advertisements (96 at the front and the rest at the back), and a section with the heading "DIARY / AND / MEMORANDA / FOR / 1929," unpaginated but starting immediately after page 514 of the text and made up of (by my count) 54 pages. On the bottom right corner of the front pastedown is a silver on dark blue bookstore label, reading "MATTHEWS & BROOKE, / Booksellers, Bradford." The first printed page reads:THE TEXTILE MANUFACTURERYEAR BOOK1929 Principal Contents on page.....7Index to " " ".....13Index to Advertisers on page 31Classified Buyers' Directory " 37 Two pages later, facing an advertisement for David Bridge & Co., Ltd., Engineers and Iron and Brass Founders of Castleton, Manchester, with a London office at 35 Queen Victoria St., E.C., is the title page, reading: THETEXTILE MANUFACTURERYEAR BOOK1929 All Rights Reserved MANCHESTEREMMOTT & COMPANY, LIMITED"THE TEXTILE MANUFACTURER" OFFICE, 65 KING STREETLONDON : 20 BEDFORD STREET, W.C.2U.S.A.: BRAGDON, LORD & NAGLE CO., 334 FOURTH AVENUE, NEW YORKJAPAN: MARUZEN COMPANY, LIMITED, TOKYO, OSAKA, KYOTOYOKOHAMA, NAGOYA, FUKUOKA, SENDAI, SAPPORO, KOBEAUSTRALIA: COLE'S BOOK ARCADE, MELBOURNE, SYDNEY, AND ADELAIDEPrinted in Great Britain, cloth, 3/6 net I'll just include here a list of the book's "PRINCIPAL CONTENTS," as outlined on page 6 (leaving out the page numbers):Characteristics of Cotton HairsYarn Numbering SystemsCotton Spinning DataCotton Waste SpinningNotes on Spinning ProcessesHigh Draft Spinning SystemsCosting of Cotton YarnDoubling Cotton Yarn Cotton Weaving and Preparing Machinery, Notes onSizing of Cotton WarpsWeaves for Cotton GoodsWeaving Particulars for Cotton FabricsAnalysis and Costing of FabricsWool SuppliesModern Wool Scouring PracticeOiling WoodWoollen and Worsted Machinery, Notes onWeaves for Woollen, Worsted, and Union ClothsWeaving Particulars for Woollen and Worsted FabricsArtificial Silk: Winding, Warping, Sizing, and WeavingBleaching of Cotton: Raw, Yarn, and ClothFinishing Cotton Piece GoodsDyeing Textile MaterialsJute Spinning and WeavingWeaving Particulars for Jute FabricsFlax Fibre, its Preparation and SpinningKnitted Fabrics and Knitting MachineryNotes on Belting, Rope Driving, and Chain DrivingBall and Roller BearingsElectrical Driving and Electric LightingHolidays in the Textile DistrictsLogarithms and Anti-logarithmsRecent Textile InventionsCalendar for 1929Post Office RegulationsAlphabetical Index to ContentsIndex to AdvertisersClassified Buyers' DirectoryDiary and Memoranda for 1919 The overall condition of this 1929 hardcover yearbook, which does not come with a dust jacket, is fair to good. The gilt-titled navy blue binding is a bit loose, corner-bent, edgeworn, torn (see the bottom left of the front board and the spine's top and tail), spotted, with gilding rubbed, etc., but it appears to be in no danger of coming apart. The off-white end pages are clean and unmarked but spotted, smudged, lightly foxed, etc. There's a bookstore label on the bottom right of the front pastedown (reading "MATTHEWS & BROOKE, / Booksellers, Bradford." Also, there's a handsome illustrated bookmark attached within by some now-faded blue-cloth ribbon (on both sides of it there's advertising for Wilson Bros. Bobbin Co., Liverpool). The thin, lightweight pages within are age-toned / yellowed / darkened, spotted, corner-bent, folded, lightly torn, etc. There appear to be no annotations, marginalia, underlining, scribbles, highlighting, etc., anywhere within, nor any major damage or flaws in the way of clipped or missing pages, water or other liquid damage, large tears, tape repairs, etc. (note that I did not look at each and every page and may have missed something). The page edges are uncolored, smooth-cut, age-toned, spotted, smudged, etc. The book has neither a musty nor smoky odor. This relatively well-preserved 1929 year book for textile manufacturers, published in Manchester, England, is being sold AS IS, AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND PICTURED WITHIN. I am setting what I feel is a reasonable starting price for the auction, and there is NO RESERVE. I am also including a Buy It Now price. Shipping and handling for the book: $5 to U.S. addresses (via Media Mail). Note that eBay now has a shipping program whereby bidders from outside the U.S. can bid on all sellers' items, and the seller sends everything to an eBay facility in the States for shipping. So far, except for one book I sold not making it to the buyer in China (who was promptly sent a refund by eBay when the book did not arrive), this program seems to be working out fine. If you want this book sent more quickly to you (e.g., via Priority Mail in the U.S.), you must request this asap after winning or purchasing it (or beforehand, if possible), and I will adjust the amount accordingly. I will do my best to send the book out to you no more than 2-3 business days following receipt of payment (that is, when eBay informs me that your payment has been posted to or otherwise cleared in my account). If you are the winner or buyer of this book, PAYMENT IS EXPECTED WITHIN ONE WEEK (7 DAYS) FROM THE PURCHASE DATE. If you cannot pay within this time frame, PLEASE contact me asap so we can work something out. I'm very flexible and understanding, but I would appreciate communication from you one way or another. PLEASE NOTE THAT RETURNS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED NOR REFUNDS MADE FOR THIS BOOK, SO PLEASE READ MY DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY, LOOK CLOSELY AT THE PHOTOGRAPHS I’VE UPLOADED, AND ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ABOUT THE CONTENTS OR CONDITION OF THE TITLE. THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING! Thanks for looking, and please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions about this copy of The Textile Manufacturer Year Book 1929. AMERICAN BIDDERS, PLEASE NOTE THAT, IF POSSIBLE, I WILL HAPPILY ADJUST SHIPPING CHARGES FOR MULTIPLE PURCHASES!!! (THIS DOES NOT YET APPLY TO THOSE OUTSIDE THE U.S.) ALSO, PLEASE NOTE THAT, IF APPLICABLE, eBAY WILL ADD ANY APPROPRIATE STATE SALES TAX TO THE INVOICE.
