Handsome set in 1/2 polished red leather and fine red cloth sides; top edges gilt and endpapers marbled. Spines with five raised bands; compartments with delicate extra gilt tooling. Each volume has a bookplate at front designed by David McNeely Stauffer for the personal library of Redmond Conyngham of Lancaster PA. Light rubbing and track nicking to leather at spine ends of a couple volumes. Mild localized darkening to leather of a couple of spines. VG+ David McNeely Stauffer (1845-1913) was an American civil engineer, editor, artist, and author. He wrote a definitive study: "American Engravers upon Copper and Steel" (The Grolier club of the city of New York, 1907) now widely available in Dover reprints. As an artist and engraver he designed bookplates for a number of notable collectors and private college libraries.
