Description: This working bank marked May 31, 1892 by Shepard Hardware is in original non-repainted condition. When a coin is placed in the mortar and the hammer is pushed back, press the thumb lever and watch the coin fly into the fort opening. The arm of the Union Soldier moves up and down with the action. In late 1892, Shepard Hardware sold some of its bank business to J.E. Stevens including the Artillery Bank. This well-made bank measures approximately 5 ¾” tall; 8” long and 3” wide. The original colors of the bank and uniformed soldiers show well. The bank does have normal wear, but the condition of the bank and spring mechanism is very good. The coin trap is present and the patent date is stamped on the bottom. Because this bank was originally designed by Shepard, the heavy-duty nature of its construction quality is evident.
