Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . . 1887-1890 Old Judge tobacco card (N172) #35 - BOB CLARK & MICKEY HUGHES ~ Brooklyn Grays/Bridegrooms (American Assoc.) Hughes and Clark were Brooklyn's battery and a pretty good one in 1888 when Hughes posted a 25-13 on 2.13 ERA and Clark batted .240 as the club's top-hitting catcher. REPRINT ~ Near-Mint "N172" (actually, simply "172") - the "N" (for 19th century) being added in later years - is the designation Jefferson Burdick in his American Card Catalog decades ago gave Goodwin & Company's Old Judge and Gypsy Queen cards of 1887-1890. Original cards from this set are now more than 120 years old and an individual card of the most common player will cost hundreds of dollars in top condition. This card is reproduced in close to the original 1-7/16" by 2-1/2" size (being 1/1/2" by 2-1/2") and features a black and white posed photograph. The back has a snappy little biography (frequently with reference to the Old Judge issue) below the player's name and card number and closes with mention of that fact that the card is a REPRINT. Here is an opportunity to acquire a reprint of a very scarce card at a affordable price. Shipping OPTIONS are available - YOUR CHOICE of either eBay standard envelope service (ESE) which is cheaper with slower delivery or USPS Ground Advantage (more costly for single cards but much faster delivery). We also offer UNLIMITED singles (up to and including 8X10 inches in size) shipped via Ground Advantage for the one card rate. Both services include insurance but USPS Ground Advantage is considerably quicker, with fewer limitations. Near-Mint Condition Collecting Tip: for those seeking detailed information regarding Old Judge cards - and especially N172's, we recommend (and sell) The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Co. ~ 1886-1890, the encyclopedic 459-page hardbound book. _______________________ Important: Shipping Information Our goal has always been to keep shipping costs low. Our objective is to sell cards and other things of interest to baseball hobbyists - not make money by overcharging on shipping.
