Description: Rare sample pamphlet for Henry Howe’s Historical Collections of Virginia. Printed in Charleston, South Carolina by Babcock and Co. 1845, 12 pp, 8.5” x 8vo, paper pamphlet. In fair condition, with loss of original wrappers, if ever included. Possibly bound and disbound from a larger volume. Blank last page loose from bottom. Staining to upper part of pages. Light markings and marginalia. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce sample booklet, comprising a variety of reviews praising the work of American historian Henry Howe (1818-1893), who is best known for his histories of a variety of states. While his Virginia edition was one of his least profitable pieces, it would still be received well, and Howe would later travel across Ohio for his Historical Collections of Ohio, which remained one of the most influential books in the state for decades. A great piece for binding and preservation. COLPAP-1064
