The second volume is: Questions For The Different Elementary Books Used In The National Schools. Compiled And Arranged By The Rev. Frederic Iremonger, A.M.F.L.S. Rivington, Booksellers to the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge; St. Paul's Church-Yard, And Waterloo-Place, Pall-Mall, London. This book is a wonderful historical item, and this copy is nearly 200 years old. It is bound in the publisher’s original brown leather, over boards, with embossed lettering on the front, displaying the words ‘SOCIETY FOR PROMOTING CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE’, and gilt tooling on the spine. The cover is intact, and in a good condition for its age. But there is some wear. This is expected from a book which is nearly 200 years old. The wear includes rubbing, splits, and soft bumping to the corners, splits on the long edges of the spine, light scratches, light rubbing (more-so at the edges and heavier on the spine), a small rip on the front board (near the bottom), and a small section of the top of the spine missing. Please see the photographs provided for further reference. Inside, the pages tanned. This is consistent with a book of this age. There is foxing on the pastedowns and endpapers, and the occasional light foxing on the rest of the pages. Besides this, the pages are very neat and clean for their age, and predominantly uncreased. There are only small folds or small creases on a few pages. Most of the pages are without rips, with just a small hole on page 35 and overleaf of the first volume (see photo). There are pencil inscriptions on the front pastedown, the page adjacent to the title page, page 2, and a little on the title page. These may be able to be erased should you wish. There is also a small ink stamp on the front pastedown, but there are no further pen or pencil written in this book. The pages are all tightly bound, which is fantastic for a book of this age. There are no missing pages and so all 44 pages of “Dr Bell’s System..”, and 135 pages of “Questions For The Different…”are present, plus 1 page at the rear containing the publisher’s book catalogue. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 17.8 cm by 11 cm and 1.6 cm wide. It weighs approximately 184 grams. Thank you so much for looking.
