Description: "Remote British Islands." An attractive set of maps, with two views, from John Thomson's 'New General Atlas' which was first issued in 1817. The imprint at the bottom reads "Drawn and Engraved for Thomson's New General Atlas, Jan. 1st. 1817." Below the title there is another imprint: "Drawn and Engraved by NR Hewitt, Grafton Str. East, Tottenham Court Road." Some of the islands are more remote than others! The featured isles are the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Mann, Guernsey, etc., Jersey, and the Isles of Scilly. The two vignettes are of Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight, and the Eddystone Lighthouse. This map is in a very good condition, with attractive border handcolouring. It would frame up beautifully.
